About eight years ago I had the honor of interviewing Sir Nicholas Winton. Not all American get to meet a British Knight let alone to go to their home, As a journalist I thought I was all that and more,,,I had interviewed Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Landon and congressmen and (the list goes on). So sitting in Maidenshire, Berkshire England with Nicky Winton was another day at work for me...until.... Until it really hit me that if this man...at 29 years of age had not moved heaven and earth to arrange kinder transports from Prague the then 13 year old Marianne Schorsche would have died in the concentration camps with her parents. Marianne went on to move from England to America after she learned of her parents deaths. She eventually married Jack Wolfson and they had three children the oldest of which is my husband. The every cool journalist lost her cool that day and wept as I thought of the sacrifice of Nicky Winton and what I would have lost had he not been the brave man he was in the 1930's Nicky Winton died a few weeks ago at 106! http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-33350880
Winton was up for the Nobel Peace prize two times...the first time he lost to Al Gore the second to Barak Obama.
